A bond is a way for the government or a company to borrow money. There are many different types in different amounts and interest rate. In essence, when you buy a bond you are loaning your money to government for certain period of time and an agreed amount of interest. When the bond matures your principal plus interest are returned to you. This type of investment is safe and can create a good steady source of income for your retirement.

I found the best gifts for my nieces and nephews are bonds. I give them for every occasion, birthdays, christmas etc. My sister keeps them all in her safety deposit box and plans to give it to them when they are 18. By that time they each have several thousands of dollars in bonds.
