Business Description
Ted Kolman has an extensive background in investing and spent over 38 years as a Senior Vice President of strategic merchandise investments for multi-million/billion dollar companies such as Federated Department Stores and May Department Stores. Ted finished his retail career at Jacobson’s in Jackson, Michigan as Senior Vice President. In addition to his merchandising duties at Jacobson’s, he also served as a committee member managing the company’s pension fund and 401K plan for 12 years. The pension plan almost tripled during his tenure. His primary objective was to grow the plan at a pace so as not to sacrifice its basic principle. The plan became over-funded by over 60%.
Ted, who has given retirement seminars to hundreds in the Jackson area, uses this same philosophy in coaching current retirees, or those near retirement, to grow and preserve their nest egg principle, while keeping risk to a minimum so as to last for the duration of their retirement. He develops plans to increase income, reduce taxes, and incorporate safeguards for their financial future. All facets of the retirement process are taken into consideration in developing a comprehensive plan. His coaching is an ongoing process which includes:
* Quarterly educational dinners
* One on one quarterly updates on your accounts
* Prepares and updates cash flow statements to monitor your financial progress
* Quarterly newsletters
* Provides topical articles relating to your investments
Ted is very active in volunteer work in the Jackson community. He serves on the Board of the Jackson Public Library as well as serving as a mediator for the small claims court system as administered by the Community Action Agency.
General Information
Ted is a graduate of Amherst College, Wharton Business School, University of Pennsylvania where he received his financial training and a Masters in Business Administration (MBA). He lives in Jackson with his wife Stephanie, an accomplished watercolorist and creativity instructor. They have three grown children enjoying successful professional careers; an Assistant United States Attorney, a Radiologist, MD., and a Psychologist, PHD. His hobbies, when not working with clients, are tennis, exercise regimens, swimming, and maintaining and enhancing seven acres of lawn and gardens.
