The 8 Best Practices of Managers™ Program
This program teaches managers how to improve the effectiveness of their teams or departments by implementing the fundamentals of performance management.
The 8 Best Practices of Entrepreneurial Managers™ are the skills that every manager, in every function, in every sector, needs to succeed as a manager.
How do you know when you might need the 8 Best Practices?
Your organization may benefit from our approach if it experiences any of the following problems:
- Do you frequently feel you are carrying the entire load of your organization on your shoulders?
- Does work sometimes fall through the cracks or is it sometimes duplicated?
- Are some of your staff members not working as well as they are capable of or are they doing work that does not sufficiently contribute to strategy?
- Are strategic targets being missed?
What are the 8 Best Practices?
- Setting Context: Helping the people you manage understand the broader picture: industry trends, changes in the organization as a whole, policy, etc.
- Assigning Tasks: Delegating appropriately, determining who should do what and being clear in what you expect each of your people to work on.
- Building Teamwork: Being clear about how you want your people to work with each other, holding them accountable for working, as you want them to.
- Re-assigning Tasks: Constantly assessing changing conditions and reassigning tasks as needed to keep your business on target.
- Monitoring Performance: Keeping track of whether deliverables are being delivered, policy is being followed; work is being done effectively, teamwork guidelines are being followed, etc.
- Coaching: Talking with your people to help them improve their performance in their role.
- Appraising Performance: Assessing at the end of the year (or quarter) whether work was being performed at an acceptable level.
- Deselecting/Dismissing: When necessary, removing employees from their role or from the organization.
In addition to these practices, you will learn how to:
- Describe a role in a way that helps recruit for the role and manage the individual in it.
- Determine what roles are needed.
- Select an appropriate person for a role.
What are the Results?
- You will meet your strategic targets with the lowest cost possible.
- Your staff will be happier because they are clear about what they need to work on, their work fits their capabilities, and they are supported in their work.
- You will no longer feel you are carrying the entire weight of the organization on your shoulders.
- Your people will be able to move up in your organization because of the opportunity to show their best work.
